Clinton Viljoen was born and raised in Ravensmead, Cape Town. He grew up in a busy neighbourhood and a Christian household, and his smooth, soulful tone soon earned him the nickname "the Brian McKnight from Cape Town". His sold-out tribute concerts carried that name around the Western Cape.
His love of music started in church, where he joined the popular gospel group New Birth as one of its lead vocalists. He later performed with the jazz band N2, and in 2010 he was part of the band Blackkurant, whose album was nominated for a SAMA. His heroes are Brian McKnight and Stevie Wonder, and his mentor is Edward Adams. In 2012 and 2013 his voice took him across the Far East, the Middle East and Europe.
Back home he toured with Jaconell, the songwriter, composer and producer behind Noot vir Noot, on three travelling concerts alongside Coenie de Villiers. His years as Sun City's resident male artist led to the Nedbank Golf Challenge and to corporate stages for Discovery Health, Seeff, RMB, Heineken and the Durban July. Today he is a songwriter, performer and producer, and he keeps releasing original music, from love songs to gospel.
